PicoSure® is a special laser that helps treat wrinkles, dark spots, acne scars, and unwanted tattoos. It’s different from other lasers because it uses shorter bursts of light and a unique lens. This combination creates pressure waves that trigger the skin’s natural healing process instead of damaging it with heat.
What PicoSure® Treats?
PicoSure® is mainly used to treat signs of aging and remove tattoos.
For anti-aging treatments, it can target acne scars, dark spots, and wrinkles. The pressure waves stimulate the body’s healing process, which helps brighten dark spots and promote collagen production. This collagen production tightens the skin and reduces wrinkles.
For tattoo removal, the pressure waves break down the ink pigments in the skin into smaller particles. These smaller particles are then removed by the body’s lymphatic system. PicoSure® can even remove difficult colors like orange and red, which are harder to remove with traditional lasers.
How Long do PicoSure® Results Last?
For hyperpigmentation or acne scars, the results are typically long-lasting. However, new scars or dark spots may develop in the future.
For tattoo removal, once the ink pigments are removed by the lymphatic system, they won’t return unless you get a new tattoo. However, multiple treatments may be needed to fully remove the tattoo, and some pigment may remain.
What to Expect During Treatment
During your PicoSure® treatment, you’ll sit in a comfortable chair, and your provider will apply a numbing cream if needed. You’ll also wear protective eyewear.
The provider will then place the applicator on your skin and deliver the energy bursts. A typical treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes, but the time may vary depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated.
Does Treatment Hurt?
Most patients handle PicoSure® treatments well, especially for anti-aging purposes. They describe the sensation as a rubber band snapping against the skin. The numbing cream also helps reduce discomfort.
For tattoo removal, the discomfort is greater due to the process of breaking down the ink pigments. However, many patients compare the discomfort to getting the tattoo itself.
PicoSure Side Effects
For anti-aging treatments, you may experience mild redness and inflammation immediately after the treatment. Many patients can apply makeup and return to their normal activities right away.
For tattoo removal, you can expect more inflammation and lingering discomfort due to the breaking down of the ink pigments within the skin, which can cause micro-damage to the surrounding tissues.
